OUR STAFF
The Executive Director
  • The Executive Director has a Ph.D. in adult education from the University of Montreal and has been teaching for many years both at the high school and university level, as well as home schooling her own children.
  • She has been a volunteer tutor at CVLC for the past ten years working with all age groups.
  • With experience in running her own business in the past, she brings with her a wealth of experiences in both the education, as well as the administrative and financial domain.
The Program Manager
  • The Program Manager has a B.A. in Anthropology from Concordia University and has done post-graduate work in the same field at the University of British Columbia. In addition, she has a graphics art degree from Dawson College.
  • She has volunteered at the CVLC since 2006 and has served as Treasurer and is currently Vice-President of the Board
  • Because of her broad background, she is able to handle almost every task presented from everyday office work to developing classroom curricula to creating logo, letterhead and web designs to re-designing the office space! A veritable 'Jack of All Trades'!
Over the years, both have attended conferences, workshops and webinars in order to keep abreast of new literacy programs, teaching approaches and online materials. In addition, they teach on a regular basis as well as develop programs and classroom materials.
Because of their love of teaching and in an effort to help individuals with a literacy issue, they have given more than 3,000 hours in office and tutoring time over the past 5 years.

OUR HISTORY
  • CVLC started in the early 1980's as a home-based activity helping adults in the Chateauguay area learn to read and write.
  • The majority of people involved as volunteers are women.
  • Over the years it grew to involve many people in Chateauguay, Kahnawake, and the Valley.
  • In 1989 CVLC was awarded a grant from the Quebec Ministry of Education to sustain and increase its activities.
  • At its outset, CVLC adopted the Laubach Vision for one-on-one tutoring for literacy learners.
  • It now prides itself as the only community organization in Chateauguay that deals with English-speaking clients who need support in literacy and literacy-type activities.
